FSSC 22000 V7 Additional Requirements

We continuously revise and improve the FSSC 22000 Scheme Additional Requirements to deliver trust and impact beyond certification.

Deliver trust and impact beyond certification

In the Foundation’s quest to deliver trust and impact beyond certification, we continuously revise and improve the FSSC 22000 Scheme Additional Requirements, which certified organizations must comply with and that form part of the FSSC 22000 Certification.

Benchmarked to GFSI and utilizing ISO standards as normative documents, FSSC supports the consumer goods industry in protecting brands and achieving targets sustainably. Version 7 of the FSSC 22000 Certification Scheme includes updates linked to specific GFSI benchmarking requirements, a new requirement on Product Design and Development linked to sustainable packaging material, removing requirements now included as part of the ISO 22002-x series, as well as strengthening of existing requirements.

Packaging design principles included as NEW requirement in V7

To further support Food Loss and Waste (FLW) reductions and sustainable food packaging, we have included some of the Save Food Packaging design principles in V7. Developed by the Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP) and globalized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), these design principles are applicable to all FSSC 22000 (Certified) Organizations involved in the design of primary packaging/packaging materials. These principles shall be taken into consideration when developing new products or making changes to packaging.

Strengthening of existing Additional Requirements

The existing FSSC 22000 Additional Requirements remain an integral part of Scheme Version 7 and includes important topics such as Food Defense, Food Fraud Mitigation, Equipment Management, Management of Allergens, Environmental Monitoring, and Hazard Control & Measures for Preventing Cross Contamination, Food safety & Quality culture, among others.

Some of these additional requirements have also been updated to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness. FSSC has Guidance Documents available on how to implement the highlighted requirements.
